How to clean dog's ears and keep them infection free

How to clean dog's ears and keep them infection free
Do you use an ear cleaner?

When Jet Cavoodle was very little his Vet Aunty Melanie told us to using an ear cleaning solution every single time he gets wet.  She recommended Epiotic, though I do know there are many brands of ear cleaner available.  She said it would keep his ears clean and should help reduce the possibility of ear infections due to his floppy ears.  I'm happy to say it's worked, he hates it, but it's worked.  So far in seven years not one single ear infection and he's been to the beach every week of his life, sometimes more than twice.

Does your dog like to be blow dried?

I also make sure that his ears are dried thoroughly with a hairdryer after each bath.  If you have a new puppy and are doing some puppy trianing I suggest you include the hairdryer and blow drying as one of your activities.  Jet Cavoodle was exposed to the hairdryer when he was only about 10 weeks old, first just seeing and smelling it then turning it on with no heat just air and eventually a low heat setting.  I'm proud to say now I can call him and ask if he wants a blow dry and he will come running towards the sound of the hairdryer.  He's too funny though because he hates the air going in his eyes so he'll put his head down and will sheild his eyes every time.

Are there other dog care tips you want to know how to do? Please let us know, if I can help I'd only be too happy to do so.

I have long floppy ears that had infections all the time. I tried a bizillion ear cleaners, even prescription but nothing worked. Finally I found out about a home recipe and that has kept me infection free for almost three years now. So happy! As for blow drying, good idea. The more a pup gets used to at a young age, the better!

Where do you find Epiotic? Bentley being a Basset Hound gets his ears cleaned daily. I would love to try those drops. He goes sound asleep while I blow him in the bathtub. I put a towel on the bottom of the tub and he thinks he is at a luxury spa! Haha!

Charlie, my 6 year old caboodle had two ear infections (both around midnight!) and was given this recipe by his vet -

Mix 1 tablespoon white vinegar & 4 tablespoons water. Syringe solution into ear & dry with cotton balls. This can be used daily.

I swap between this solution and the Epi-Otic solution & so far, so good, no more infections.

We purchased our Epiotic from our Vet in Australia but I've also seen it at pet shops.
